Does Online Therapy Actually Work?

By Healing Steps Counseling

Online therapy went from novelty to normal almost overnight. A fair question remains: does talking to a therapist through a screen actually help? For most people and most concerns, the research says yes.

The evidence is encouraging

Studies consistently find telehealth therapy to be effective for common concerns like anxiety and depression, often comparable to in-person care. What matters most in therapy — a strong relationship with a skilled therapist — translates well over video.

The real-world upsides

Telehealth removes some of the biggest barriers to getting help:

  • No commute or time off work
  • Care from rural areas or a busy season of life
  • Comfort of your own space
  • Easier consistency, which drives results

When in-person may fit better

Some situations — young children, certain crises, or simply a personal preference — are better served in person. Many people mix both. If you’re in Utah, we offer secure telehealth statewide and in-person sessions in Lehi and Payson.
